However convenient to get things running quickly, this is both a security risk and a waste of memory.

The OS should of course update the system's Java VM when there's a security update available, and since Funambol's Java is not managed by the package manager I would have to do this manually. And I'm too lazy for that.. It is quite simple to replace Funambol's Java with the system's Java, but I decided to take it one step further, and get rid of Tomcat as well, since I already have a JBoss 5 instance running on my server.

This turned out not to be a straightforward configuring change..

I used newer versions for both the funambol (10.0.0) and the sogo integration plugin (1.0.9), but the procedure is exactly the same.

There is however a small error in the procedure, at the end of the walkthrough, with the parameters you have to set with the funambol admin client.

Getting all Fn keys to work on the Sony Vaio VPCZ2

When I got my Vaio Z2, I installed Kubuntu 11.10 on it, and found out that not all Fn keys are mapped correctly out of the box. This is not specific to KDE, since it's mostly a kernel driver level thing.

Kernel driver

Note that I'm not talking about the fancy Assist, Web and Vaio buttons (I will get to these in another post), just the Fn-key mappings.

The normal troubleshooting procedures at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting didn't work (that somehow always happens to me :)), due to the peculiar way the sony-laptop driver works for handling input events. (See http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1110.2/00048.html for the nitty gritty).

Out of the box, the mute, volume up & down, brightness up & down, and the suspend key worked. The touchpad toggle, display switch, and zoom in & out didn't.

Full story »

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

It offers the basic groupware functionality without forcing you to use their own authentication implementation or email (IMAP, SMTP) server, so it integrates very well in my current setup of OpenLDAP, Postfix and Dovecot.

I have been evaluating competing solutions like Horde, OpenXChange and Kolab, but they always imposed their own authentication services, rigid email setup, or out-of-distribution packages. Next to that, the provided web client usually looks horrible, or the service didn't provide modern standards like CalDAV and CardDAV.
